The research group's activities cover a vast spectrum of the study of civil engineering structures in the field of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and composite structures. The research methodology used by the research group includes experimental, analytical, and numerical model-based analysis of structures, development of novel design methods, development of innovative structural details, analysis of new steel and reinforced concrete materials, and analysis of mechanical properties design specialties of composite structures.
The activities of the research group are related to essential research topics (e.g., investigation of structures for earthquakes, investigation of the mechanics of composite materials, application of high-strength steels), industrial developments (e.g., development of new steel and reinforced concrete structures), industrial applications (independent static inspection of existing systems, consultation in large-scale investments), and the development of international standards (for developing a second-generation Eurocode standard).
The research team conducts experimental, analytical, and numerical studies in the following fields: (i) numerical model-based examination and design of steel, reinforced concrete, and composite structures; (ii) experimental, numerical and analytical investigation of thin-walled steel structures, (iii) development of innovative design methods for reinforced concrete slabs, (iv) design of masonry structures, (v) reinforcement of steel and reinforced concrete structures with composite materials, (vi) design of composite structures, (vii) application of BIM in the design and maintenance of structures.
The research group has internationally recorded results in the field of experimental and numerical investigation of steel and composite structures, as well as analytical investigation of composite structures. In Hungary, the research group has the widespread dissemination of innovative numerical model-based design methods and their standard application in civil engineering design practice. The results of the research group have been used in industrial practice in recent years, and the results of the research and expert work have been used in several large domestic investments (eg Opera House reconstruction, Eiffel hall reconstruction, Paks Nuclear Power Plant, ELI Extreme Light Infrastructure).
Our research results are also known and recognized internationally; several of the new design procedures developed by the research team have been incorporated into the new generation of Eurocode design standards, making our research results widely applicable. The leading international recognition of the research team and the research team is demonstrated by our participation in the work of several standards review committees.
